Mary McLeod Bethune and Eleanor Roosevelt – 2013 – 6 inches tall – Commissioned by the Mary McLeod Bethune Humanitarian Network, these are the maquettes for a proposed National Monument. The two women were good friends and worked together on the Drafting Committee for the “Universal Declaration of Human Rights”, which became the 1948 charter for the UN. Born to former slaves, Mother Bethune was known for her commitment to education, she founded Bethune-Cookman University and worked to better the lives of African Americans and immigrants.
